The project
This is a holiday home near famous surf locations like Supertubos, 1 hour south of Nazaré.
The program was to use the house for holidays and periodicaly rent it.
The house dating from the 50’s was completely renovated.
In the main building of 90 sqm, the rooms of the 1st floor have been re-aranged and a bathroom was created.
Between the main building and the former farm storage, a veranda with a glass roof was created as a big relaxing area with comfortable benches linking the two buildings.
There is a private area reserved for the clients with a separate kitchen, a bedroom with bathroom in the extension of the house, created in the former farming storage shed.
The extension flat roof was implemented with a metal beam skeleton inserted into the old walls. It was a cost saver versus a masonry structure and roof.
The total surface now reaches 170 sqm.
The client, likes raw materials like concrete floors and seaside color themes inspired by the ocean and the beach. The studio helped to find accessories for the decoration final touch.
Besides being a functional house accommodating up to 8 persons, it needs to save on energy and water expenses. A central water heating system is connected to the solar heating panels on the roof .
Another feature is an integrated fireplace functioning either with pellets or with wood. Its recycled heat is pumped through the ceilings both into the extension and into the veranda to save on the
electric heaters. An existing well is now equipped with a water pump to water the garden.
The works were coordinated from France through a french-portuguese general contractor, AGEMA in Lisbon.
